Soul (2020) - Review (USA)

By Bashayer Mohammed A Alharbi

The story of the film is about a music teacher who loves jazz. He loves the piano and plays it. He waits his whole life to get a chance to play professionally, but the day he gets this chance, he discovers that he missed the train. Then events begin, and we enter into a unique fictional experience to evaluate his life and evaluate his priorities after his death.

One of the most important strengths of this film is its discussion of an important topic that haunts young people today for a long time, which is the topic of passion. There are two types of people: someone who is aware of his passion and tries to pursue it despite the difficulties that lie in his way, or someone who does not know his passion in the first place. Because finding passion is never easy, most young people today live without having a passion, which makes them feel inferior and lost. Here is the beauty of this movie, which talks about this problem and more, delving deeper and beautifully explaining them. The film talks about priorities in life and about enjoying life with small pleasures before big ones. And it gives us a dark, humorous, but realistic view of death before death.

In this film's biggest strength is that it dealt with complicated topics but in a smooth, fun and understandable way. Another strong point that was the reason for smoothly conveying these profound messages is the graphics, specifically the imagination in the drawings, which proves the animation's strength and depth. A story of this type cannot be straightforward without these drawings. The use of graphics and imagination was able to communicate ideas more precisely and powerfully. The film presented the concept of death, frightening and dark spirits in a delightful and fun way. Plus, the animation has the usual Disney charm. The characters were drawn in a fun style. Cities, streets, and lights were drawn as if they were real scenes. The animation of New York City was the most beautiful. As is the case in animation films, the voice acting in this movie is very important, and the choice of actor Jamie Foxx for the main lead role was wonderful and useful because Jamie can give us comedy and drama and move between them smoothly.

This film's release is the most appropriate date for the film, its incredible story being at the end of 2020, and the beginning of 2021. The year 2020, which forced many people to review their priorities, was an opportunity to help us imagine the real fun meaning in this life, no matter how small. The film is a gift to anyone who feels lost and lives aimlessly. The movie gives us a chance to bond with the soul. Disney films are family films in which adults and children can enjoy, but this film was unusually different. Adults could relate to the film more than children (some events may be interesting to kids but most of the messages in this film were deep and very difficult for children to understand). Overall, the film was terrific and a beautiful ending for the year 2020.
