The movie Mulan 2020 is the reality version of the animation film Mulan released in 1998. The film's story is simply about the girl Mulan. She decides to join the army in order to save her father's life. The character of Mulan before being one of the Disney characters is primarily a mythical figure of Chinese heritage. It is worth noting that when the animation version was released in China in 1998, it did not meet the Chinese public's admiration, and the reason is that the Chinese say the story was Americanized. Today, Disney tried to present the story again, but the main goal is to please the Chinese.
Many things that were in the main story have been discarded or changed. The strengths said of the film is the production value,which was very high from the photographic environment. The various places in filming in the mountains, in the forests in Chinese villages and Chinese cities were all presented wonderfully, and the graphic scenes are beautiful. On the other hand, the film had many beautiful action shots, whether it was the individual or group combat shots, especially when it relied on the slow-motion scene, highlighting the fighting skills, whether of Mulan or more with the armies. There is a general feeling known to Disney viewers is the “magic of Disney”, and always in most Disney films.This magic is because Disney always relies on several factors when filming its movies. Firstly, a dramatic story inspired by dreamy characters. Second, these main characters are supported by characters who give us the comedic side that makes us more attached to the characters during the movie. Third, there is a romantic story, and the romantic story is always beautiful and straightforward.
During the film's events, we go through simple events that the main characters go through and develop the story until it reaches the end, confronts evil and overcomes it. Children always understand the development of events before adults. This is Disney’s World and these feelings that it creates, but in Mulan 2020 all these feelings and this unique magic of Disney does not exist. Firstly, there are no supporting characters in the film, even the character Mosho, the little dragon, who was present in the animation film is not included and was excluded because, for the Chinese, the character of the dragon means strength and tyranny, it does not suit him to be in a comic relief for the film. Secondly, there is no sincere romance in this movie, just glimpses of admiration. The reason is that the character of the commander of the battalion, who was in the animation movie and Mulan was under his direction. The reason for dispensing with him is to fight all thoughts of harassment because one of the common cases is that the director or the person in the rank of the commander in places like work or study, he may use his power to harass those under his authority. It may be the presence of the leader's character in the film and its connection to a romantic story with Mulan that might come across as justifying the existence of this kind of harassment. so Disney removed the existence of his character in the film, which is a noble act to be reckoned.
One of the negative points in this film is that it does not contain songs. As for the antagonist, he did not take his right, so two evils were presented, but the idea of evil was much more flattened. On the development of the characters, the whole movie is supposed to be based on the character of Mulan, and her insistence on proving herself, Mulan at the beginning of the film is the same character at the end of the film; development in character was very superficial. The length of the movie was much longer than the animation, and there is no development of events or characters that justifies this longer runtime. But in general, the film may be interesting to some, especially children.
