Little Women (2019) - Review (USA)

By Bashayer Mohammed A Alharbi

Little Women is one of the Oscars nominated films. The story of the movie is a classic story of the finest books in world literature. This story is more than 100 years old. It was released in several copies, an animation version, and a copy released in 1994. The story talks about four sisters; each one has different ambitions and different goals with a completely different personality who live in one house.

One of the positives of this movie is the story itself is the well-known classic story. Still, it is very nice that the director and writer took the story from the international novel and changed it fundamentally, which is the way events are narrated instead of narrating events for girls from their childhood until they grow up. They began to navigate the timelines between the future and the past. This method for the viewer who knows a novel is considered a renewal in the story. While for the viewers who do not know anything about the story, it is exciting and interesting. Acting and directing were terrific. The sisters' intimate relationship. The relationship of the daughters with their mother, and the way they sacrifice in caring for others. There is a beautiful amalgamation of drama, comedy and strong feelings, how we are happy with girls, and how emotions transform. The cast is very distinctive. Firstly, Jo's hateful character, I expect that a lot will hate this character during the events. This hate came as a result of the elaborate representation of actress Florence Pugh. This character wonderfully gave us it even in a simple way. Jo is the main character who narrates the events that happen to the sisters during the film. Saoirse Ronan starred in a significant role. The role fits her, and her acting is honest. Although the character of Jo in the novel is complex, Saoirse Ronan, presented in the most beautiful form of strength, weakness, ambition, and confusion. All these emotions were able to convey them perfectly.

Despite the small role of and the few events in which she appeared; Meryl Streep was the cause of the comic scenes. As usual, Timothée Chalamet, his performance was dazzling in the character of the spoiled young man who is so in love with Joe, who wastes his life after Joe. The film's general environment was beautiful; the decors were terrific, the clothes were elegant, the details of the period of cities, countryside and palaces were elaborate. The disadvantages of this movie: Some characters did not take their right. For example, the character of Joe was presented in all its details, while the other characters were superficial. It is rare to see a story re-filmed and be distinctive, but this film was based on the old classic tale. What distinguishes this story is that it can be recounted at any time for all girls, as it gives messages about ambition, pride, dignity, caring for others, a beautiful and exciting movie. I advise everyone to watch it.
